Shadow in Shadow
A house shaped by the interaction of light and shadow, where curved geometry, openings, and material create a continuously changing interior.
Project overview
This project explores how architecture can be shaped through the interaction of light and shadow. Rather than treating light as a secondary effect, it becomes the primary driver in forming space.
The design begins with a series of curved geometries derived from the abstraction of traditional Islamic patterns. These geometries are translated into continuous walls and vaulted surfaces, creating a fluid spatial system where boundaries are softened and spaces unfold gradually into one another.
Material choices reinforce this effect. Textured surfaces capture and soften light, while variations in tone respond to different functional needs, allowing light and shadow to articulate the program without rigid separation.
Through the manipulation of geometry, openings, and material, the project generates a sequence of spaces where light continuously transforms the interior. The result is an architecture that is not static, but shaped by time - where shadow becomes both a spatial boundary and an experiential layer within the house.
