House R
A collective housing system that balances repetition and variation to create diverse living conditions within a shared structural framework.
Project overview
This project explores new possibilities for collective housing through a system that balances repetition and variation. While contemporary urban housing often relies on standardized units, this proposal seeks to introduce spatial diversity within a shared structural framework.
The design is generated through a set of geometric units that can be combined and adapted into multiple configurations. Although each unit follows the same underlying structure, variations in layout, orientation, and sectional relationships produce distinct living conditions. Split levels, interlocking volumes, and varied entry sequences create a range of spatial experiences within a compact footprint.
Circulation is distributed rather than centralized. Vertical cores and access paths are positioned to create multiple routes through the building, encouraging encounters between residents while maintaining individual privacy. Balconies, terraces, and shared outdoor spaces are interwoven throughout the mass, forming a network of semi-public zones that support everyday social interaction.
The result is a housing system that moves beyond uniformity, allowing individuality to emerge within a collective form. Through the repetition and transformation of a basic spatial logic, the project generates a diverse residential environment that responds to both personal and communal needs.
