Project overview

This project is located in the historic Xibeijiao district in Tianjin, an area undergoing urban renewal while retaining rich local culture and everyday life.

Based on on-site research, the design proposes a strategy that balances preservation and transformation - maintaining existing lifestyles while adapting to new urban conditions. Rather than replicating the old fabric, key spatial typologies such as elevated walkways and small public squares are abstracted and reinterpreted.

By integrating these elements into a renewed urban framework, the project preserves collective memory while supporting contemporary life. It creates a continuity between past and present, where everyday experience becomes a carrier of cultural identity.
